Today marked the start of Josh Brent’s jury trial, on charges of the intoxication manslaughter death of his Dallas Cowboy teammate Jerry Brown, Jr. Both of them had also attended the University of Illinois.
On the first day of testimony, jurors heard from the arresting officer and saw dash camera video of Brent performing field sobriety tests. The jury was told that Brent admitted to drinking that night before the fatal crash and that he was “buzzed” although he denied that alcohol played a role in the crash. The officer testified that Brent had failed the field sobriety tests and was taken to a hospital for a blood test. It is expected that the evidence will show that Brent had a BAC of 0.189.
The trial resumes tomorrow. You can follow Dallas reporter Jennifer Emily, who is live-tweeting the case, under the twitter handle @DallasCourts.
