In anticipation of a weekend full of St. Patrick’s Day revelry, police departments have been planning roadblocks and added patrols.
So far, I have seen a couple of news reports from Patch. In one, Deerfield Patch reports that the Illinois State Police has announced a roadside safety check “on the southbound Tri-State Tollway near the Irving Park Road exit and O’Hare International Airport on Friday and Saturday…The I-294 safety check will take place between 11 p.m. Friday, March 14, and 4 a.m. Saturday, March 15.”
Highland Park Patch also reports that:
From March 13th through March 17th , 2014, Highland Park Police will be out in force supporting the annual Illinois St. Patrick’s Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” crackdown on drunk drivers. The statewide crackdown will include high-visibility alcohol and seat belt enforcement throughout Highland Park and other North Shore communities. The statewide crackdown will also be supported by national and state paid advertising, creating a comprehensive campaign to curb drunk driving during the holiday season.
During this campaign, extra Highland Park Police Officers will be aggressively cracking down on intoxicated motorists. In addition, front and back seat belt law violations will be enforced.
So please remember to either have a designated driver, cab or public transportation planned out if you are going out to drink this weekend.
